The majority document Hunt's activities after his Iowa State presidency, in particular, his role as founder of Oriental Consolidated Mines of Korea, his plan to fund experimental small-scale farms in Iowa, and his financial interest in cotton in the Sudan. Also included is a listing of the Hunt holdings at the University of Nevada Special Collections.

Leigh S.J. Hunt, a native of Indiana, received his undergraduate degree through Middlebury College (Vermont). Hunt passed the bar in Indiana and taught in the public schools in Indiana and Iowa, prior to serving as a superintendent (1880-1882). He was named the third president of Iowa Agricultural College (Iowa State University) in 1885, but his lack of experience and aggressive style of leadership led to conflicts with students and faculty, and he resigned in 1886. Walter S. Hunsaker was the private secretary and resident agent for businessman Leigh S.J. Hunt and his Las Vegas interests; after Hunt's death Hunsaker served in the same capacity for Hunt's wife Jessie N. Hunt, son Henry Leigh Hunt, and daughter Helen Hunt Rives. Hunsaker was married to Martha Morrison Hunsaker and was active in Las Vegas service clubs. During the 1930s he was a distributor for Richfield Oil Company.
